How Lizzie Velasquez Can Inspire You

Lizzie Velasquez is an American motivational speaker and author. She has a rare congenital disease called Marfan syndrome which prevents her from accumulating body fat.

According to Wikipedia, Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a genetic disorder of connective tissue. The degree to which people are affected varies. People with Marfan’s tend to be tall, and thin, with long arms, legs, fingers and toes.

They also typically have flexible joints and scoliosis. The most serious complications involve the heart and aorta with an increased risk of mitral valve prolapse and aortic aneurysm. Other commonly affected areas include the lungs, eyes, bones, and the covering of the spinal cord.

This condition resulted in bullying during her childhood and early youth and ultimately inspired her to take up motivational speaking.

How Do YOU Define Yourself

I Choose To Be Happy

Aside from being a motivational speaker, Lizzie Velasquez is also an author. Her bestselling book – A Brave Heart: has inspired a lot of women to be confident for who they really are. There was also a documentary film that was created for her it was entitled Lizzie Beautiful.

Why do we love Lizzie? She’s unique. She’s beautiful. She’s amazing. And yes – we mean that.

Have you ever looked in yourself in the mirror and actually “liked” what you see? When was the last time you called yourself “beautiful?.”

While watching her talks, there was a light bulb that pop into my head..”Oh yeah she’s right! I don’t have to prove anything to anybody. I don’t need anyone’s affirmations and approval because I am OK with me.”

You should definitely watch all her talks and read her books. The world needs to see that BEAUTY is not artificial, it’s not about what you look like – it’s WAY MORE THAN what other people see or say to you.

  • I’ve read about her too and I’ve also seen the videos that brand her as that. Personally, I really don’t know why people would brand other people such as that. It’s just plain mean.

I would highly recommend also reading or listening to Lizzie’s talks. We really need to examine where we get our self-worth. Is it really based on other people’s perceptions? Is it ours? Or is it God’s? I hope it’s the latter.

  • I think Lizzie is the best example of a true fighter! I have discovered her a while ago and I simply cried watching her TedEx video. It was so touching and sad, and I admire her for going through so much and suffering so much, but finding the power in her to forgive her bullies and love life

  • I loved her too! I watched one of her video. She is truly inspirational. She speaks genuinely with a brave heart.

  • Zwitsy

I have watched one of her vlogs and I admire her for being positive towards those negative comments about her. I see a strong and beautiful woman here.

I have watched her beauty vlogs and boy I must say she’s one pretty woman. She inspires me in a lot of ways. Her confidence is really far from me and by her, I always know that I’m pretty no matter what others say or how they bash me.

    • Yes yes yes! We are all beautiful especially in God’s eyes! <3

  • I have watched a few of her talks including what you posted here. Very inspiring indeed! We are all beautiful in our own right. That’s because God made all of us in His image and likeness. SOmetimes, we just forget.

    • Let’s focus on what God is saying and not what other people is trying to make us feel

  • So far so Sabine

Ive seen her for the first time on TV. Being healthy is so special and we should not take it for granted. She is however such a strong woman. She is inspiring me too. I have nothing to complain about.

    • Yep totally agree. She’s really a beautiful reminder on what beauty really means.

  • Carola

I have heard of her before. Great that you’re are writing an article about her. It’terrible that she was called the ugliest woman. It’s not true at all and I believe no one is. We just shouldn’t think like that. I love it that she found the power to become a insiprational speaker. She’s such a strong person!

    • Yes I am amazed on how strong she is. All women should think like that <3

Amazing how most people are so quick into criticizing one’s life because we’re a billion out there and no one would care. Lizzie has a lot of beauty in her and hearing that she mostly inspires people with her words is enough to make her my queen for a lifetime. There are a lot of open-minded, righteous people out there and she needs all our support. That’s one of our responsibilities as humans.

  • WHOA! Ugly? Let me be the judge of that. First, I bookmarked so I could watch her talk. I am sure that what she has to share can only enhance our lives – you and I. I am out on a cafe so I can’t watch her videos, but I will.
